Coreheim 8.1 is Up

Coreheim 8.1 is up along with updated Unique Spells v. 0.8, and new Special skills for Undead v. 0.1 and Possessed v. 0.1.

FAQ and Unique Spells Hotfix

Q: Slings Count as Short Bows. Do Slings Work with Quick Shot and Snap Shot, then?

A: Yes. Slings are Short Bows in ALL respects. (We might release an add-on package for Unique Sling rules at a later time. Fluff-wise it would be great, but rules-wise there is no need as Slings = Short Bows is greatly balanced.)

Q: The Arms Expert Skill figures under both Shooting and Academic.
- Is this intentional?
- Does the restriction of 'one one warrior in the warband may have this skill at a time' apply to this skill no matter what skill list (shooting/academic) the skill is obtained from?

A: - This is intentional. (Balance reasons: This makes non-shooting warbands able to do just a little shooting.)

- Yes. Only ONE Arms Expert per warband, no matter what skill list it was obtained from.

UNIQUE SPELLS
As a hotfix, we recommend that you remove the Fatigue rule.

Updated FAQs, New Pictures by Dark Apostle

Updated the FAQs today to be in lieu with the present version of Coreheim.

We are pleased to see that Coreheim is picking up around the net and becomming a recognized alternative or improvement to the original 1999-rules. We are also grateful for the feedback and fanmail that we have recieved. Keep it comming :D

"Please do Warband X for Coreheim"

We keep getting requests for more warbands so I'll try to say a few words on why there are only six warbands in Coreheim.

The first thing to understand is that the more warband that are introduced, the harder it becomes to balance things. A one eminent statistician said of Warhammer 40K/ Fantasy, "with 10+ different armies, things become impossible to balance out".

Another thing to remember is that some races, while viable in Warhammer games, are simply not compatible with the Mordheim or Coreheim skirmish engine. Elves for example, are a very good case in point: Whereas you could limit their numbers and thereby balance them somewhat, this still won't make for a fun campaign. Generally, extreme warbands that only fighy by shooting or only fight by close combat reduce interaction between players, which makes for a less fun game overall.

This is the reason why all bands can do some shooting in Coreheim, and even the Undead, worst shooters of the lot are not straight up Close Combat monsters, but need proper maneuvers to make the most of the setup.

A third reason not to expand on the range of existing warbands is fluff. This is the least important reason for us. But even so, many players seem to miss the fact that Games Workshop's Mordheim was never a skirmish adaptation of the Fantasy world, but rather a quite specific setting within the Empire, dominated by humans, and with a distinct, gothic, low-fantasy feel to it. (Whereas the Fantasy world in general is more colourful and high-fantasy.)

Now, even after these arguments have been advanced, I know that there will still be some players who will wish to create more warbands for Coreheim. And even though such warbands will probably never be offically endorsed by Coreheim, we'd be curious to see what you come up with out there.

Finally, a list of races that we have been getting requests for, and our estimations of their adaptability to Coreheim:

Could be adapted for Coreheim:
- Other Skaven Clans
- Chaos Dwarfs (with hobgoblin henchmen) (give Dwarves Pack Rat as racial skill)
- Orcs (limit max number of Orcs to ~7, keep warband initaitive low, dont let them take normal swords)

Cannot be adapted for Coreheim:
- Elves (no bad henchmen available)
- Dwarves (no bad henchmen available)

7.9 is Up!

One update has sparked another and so we are already able to bring you Coreheim 7.9!

Be sure to check out the Version History to updates.

Advanced players may also want to check out the Unique Spells v. 0.6 which we have updated and tweaked. And added an interesting rule for fatigue.

What we are working on for Coreheim 8.0 is a better exploration system, one that does not favor shooting warbands over cloes combat warbands. Suggestions are welcome!

With that, it is on to playtesting. Hopefully, we will start a regular campaign and start bringing you COREHEIM battle reports with pictures this spring.

Mega-Update!

Today we have launched a very large update:

7.8 is up! and an updated version history for 7.8 and a Guide to Base Sizes has been uploaded. Add-on rules for Encumbrance has been added for players interested in strategic depth. And a guide for new players comming from Mordheim.

First Post!

Hello fellow Coreheimers!

Just an intropost to let you know that we have created this blog to track updated on the Coreheim Homepage.

After a slow month, we have big plans for Coreheim. There is an upcomming 7.8 hotfix that will streamline Psychology rules and a few other things. We are also looking into adding more skills to each list.

We have also planned a massive re-test of our rules, to take place in spring of 2010. This will without doubt yield even more fine-tunings of the Coreheim ruleset as well as some Diversified Spell lists. - We may also post some battlereports just for fun.

We have also asked Tom, over at Tom's Boring Mordheim Forum to consider setting up a Coreheim sub-forum on his page. So far we have not heard anyhting though.
